On October 10, Eleanor Olszewski, Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience, marked the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction by emphasizing this year’s theme: “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters.” With climate change driving more frequent and costly disasters, the federal government is advancing the Emergency Management Strategy for Canada: Towards a Resilient 2030, modernizing the Disaster Financial Assistance Arrangements, and launching the Canadian Centre for Recovery and Resilience. The message is clear: hazards may be inevitable, but investing in resilience helps prevent disasters.
